To expand its activities in Japan, BLOCK71 JAPAN opened its second base, BLOCK71 Tokyo, in the TAKANAWA GATEWAY Link Scholars’ Hub (LiSH) in Tokyo in March 2025, following the opening of BLOCK71 Nagoya at STATION Ai in Aichi Prefecture in November 2024. We connect startups in Japan and Southeast Asia with stakeholders such as companies, governments, and investors to promote innovation in Singapore and Japan.
ABOUT US
BLOCK71 is part of NUS Enterprise, the innovation division of the National University of Singapore (NUS). The name BLOCK71 comes from the name of the building in which the headquarters is located.
BLOCK71 is Asia’s leading startup ecosystem builder, which began operations in 2001 and currently has locations in six countries around the world. BLOCK71 Japan, the Japanese base, was established in 2024.
BLOCK71 Japan focuses on two main activities.
The first is cross-border startup support from Japan to Southeast Asia and vice versa. Calling itself a “Market Launcher,” we provide support in the early stages of startups, from creating business opportunities such as POC and contract acquisition to establishing presence, through the provision of various programs, market access, and business development.
The second is to contribute to innovation in Japan by enabling Japanese business companies and universities to utilize the intellectual property and innovation know-how of NUS Enterprise, the entrepreneurial arm of National University of Singapore.
We hope to contribute to the revitalization of the startup ecosystem in Japan and Southeast Asia through both the cross-border success of startups in Japan and Southeast Asia and the provision of intellectual property and innovation know-how from the National University of Singapore (NUS).

We were able to achieve significant results by participating in the Market Immersion Program hosted by BLOCK71 Japan. We had individual meetings with end users and investors, participated in exhibitions, and made connections with partners from various industries, which gave us the opportunity to fully expand into the Japanese market. We hope that BLOCK71 Japan will continue to foster an ecosystem to support startups and provide a strategic platform for NUS spin-off companies to enter the Japanese market.
