Role OverviewWe are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Interns to join our team in Software Development. You will work alongside our technical advisor and contribute to the development of our free online language learning tools and the language learning platform. This internship offers opportunities across the full software development lifecycle, from contributing to the free tools (Handwriting Practice, Worksheet Generator, Legibility Checker, Script Racer, Spelling Bee / Ting Xie Tester) to developing the backend of the language learning platform.
This is an excellent opportunity for a budding software engineer who is also passionate about language learning to gain practical experience in a startup environment and contribute to products with meaningful impact, especially during our critical Q2 2025 free tools launch phase (our short-term goal for the next quarter). ResponsibilitiesDepending on your skills and interests, and project needs, responsibilities may include:
Contributing to the development and enhancement of our free online language learning tools.
Assisting in the development of the backend for the language learning platform.
Implementing UI/UX designs for web and mobile components.
Writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code.
Participating in testing and debugging software features.
Assisting with API integration and data management.
Learning and applying new technologies and frameworks.
Collaborating with the team on technical solutions and feature development.
Contributing to technical documentation.
QualificationsMust be passionate about language learning and have demonstrated some interest in language learning either informally or formally.
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Basic understanding of software development principles and object-oriented programming.
Familiarity with Javascript or Typescript and related web/mobile development frameworks like React or React Native is a plus.
Interest in web application development and a willingness to contribute to both frontend and backend tasks.
Problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
Good communication and collaboration skills.
Organized and able to manage time effectively.
Bonus PointsIs an active language learner (ideally learning or having learned a language with challenging scripts like Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.). Please specify languages you are learning or have learned in your application.
Experience with React or React Native for web development frameworks.
Experience with backend development or databases.
Experience with AI/ML concepts or APIs.
Experience with audio or visual processing in Javascript/Typescript.
Personal projects showcasing coding skills (e.g., GitHub portfolio).
Experience using language learning apps or online tools.
