Position Summary
This internship is designed as a transformative founder experience for a current student
in Medicine, Psychology, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy who wants to shape the
future of youth mental health—not just practice within it.
Rather than a traditional clinical placement, this role treats the intern as a Founder-in-
Residence: a systems thinker, builder, and advocate-in-action.You will play a central role
in co-designing digital mental health solutions, shaping clinical-community narratives,
and leading real-world research-to-action projects.
You will directly influence how care is delivered, how systems evolve, and how young
people experience healing.You’ll work within a high-trust, youth-led, innovation-first
environment—where your lived experience, clinical knowledge, and advocacy can leave
a lasting legacy.
Position Focus
This track focuses on the intersection of clinical insight, mental health systems reform,
and youth-centered design.The Founder-in-Residence will help bridge lived experience,
therapeutic practice, and tech innovation by contributing to product development, digital
triage models, care pathways, and research communication.
You’ll also contribute to public engagement, pitching, and fundraising—applying your
voice to shift stigma, drive investment, and reimagine scalable youth-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
As a Founder-in-Residence (Clinical Track), you will not be limited to clinical observation or traditional placement tasks—you’ll step into the multidimensional role of a founder-in-training, applying your insight from medicine, psychology, social work, or occupational therapy to actively shape innovation from the ground up.
Research, Strategy & Systems Innovation
- Translate academic or clinical frameworks into youth-friendly tools, systems, or
content
- Conduct literature reviews, landscape scans, and critical analysis of emerging mental health modalities (e.g., digital therapeutics, trauma-informed tech, AI in care)
- Map out mental health care journeys and co-design low-barrier digital entry points
- Contribute to white papers, strategic briefs, or product concepts that influence mental health policy or commissioning models
- Explore culturally relevant, intersectional, and equity-based care models
- Co-design low-barrier systems for access, triage, and engagement
- Conduct user interviews, focus groups, and community immersions
Product & Program Development
- Participate in product discovery sprints and co-design workshops with youth
- Help develop or validate content for wellness tools, digital support journeys, or care pathways
- Contribute to feedback loops on usability, accessibility, safety, and clinical impact
- Provide insight on therapeutic tone, cognitive load, trauma sensitivity, and functional design
- Help shape inclusive protocols for peer support, safety escalation, or AI-human handover
Advocacy, Storytelling & Public Engagement
- Write or co-author blog posts, reflections, or thought pieces from a future-clinician perspective
- Contribute to awareness campaigns and stigma-challenging public narratives
- Represent Convalesce Labs in panels, showcases, or stakeholder roundtables
- Support community activation events or youth engagement sessions
Fundraising, Pitching & Ecosystem Growth
- Assist in preparing grants, funding proposals, and theory of change documents
- Translate clinical impact into investor-ready narratives and pitch materials
- Attend mock investor calls, fundraising sprints, or youth innovation challenges
- Identify values-aligned funders, ecosystem players, or partnership opportunities
- Co-develop case studies and outcome reports that demonstrate system-level potential
Education/Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in one of the following fields: Medicine, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Or a related mental health, allied health, or care system field
- Bonus: Concurrent involvement in an entrepreneur club, student startup, or portfolio-building initiative
Experience/Skills
Essential:
- Deep interest in mental health reform, youth-centered innovation, or social systems design
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and a track record of ownership or leadership
- Cultural awareness, empathy, and a collaborative mindset
- Comfort with ambiguity, co-design, and working across disciplines
- Lived experience with mental health, or demonstrated allyship and advocacy for lived experience communities
Desirable:
- Experience in youth participation, research, or service design
- Familiarity with human-centered design, behavioural science, or trauma-informed care
- Exposure to startup environments, social entrepreneurship, or impact measurement
- Strong presentation and storytelling abilities, especially for diverse audiences
- Ability to critically translate theory into practical, scalable, and inclusive solutions.
