In this week’s Entrepreneur Feature, we speak to Amrith, the co-founder of impress.ai.
1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Amrith. I’m the co-founder and COO at impress.ai, an AI chatbot software for recruiters. I create processes and follow best practices to ensure that our team always exceeds customer expectations.
Our conversational bots conduct competency-based structured interviews using techniques from Industrial-Organizational Psychology, specifically situational judgment questions. The chatbots autonomously interview, engage, and shortlist candidates at scale, 24/7, and actively fight human bias by hiding biasing information from human reviewers.
2. What is impress.ai’s secret sauce?
The founding team has a strong tech background with two of us being PhDs in Computer Science. However, we realized quite early that recruitment is not just about technology. We read hundreds of pages of research in the area of I/O psychology, a field that studies how people should be evaluated for jobs. One key takeaway was that structured interviews are a sound way of evaluating candidates for jobs, and candidates should be evaluated based on competencies that are relevant for the job. impress.ai’s chatbot is not just able to converse and engage candidates, but also to assess them based on the best practices from I/O psychology.
3. What is next for impress.ai?
We have been getting good traction in Singapore. We have just set up an office in the US and plan to expand there in the coming months. Some of our clients want to use us in China, where they see huge growth. So we are working on a Chinese version of our bot, which will be launched soon.
4. What is the greatest challenge you have faced?
When our users hear about us as an AI-powered recruitment software, they have various kinds of expectations. One of the main challenges that we have faced is in setting the right expectations and educating the market on what AI can do and what it cannot.
5. What is your best memory at NUS Enterprise?
I have many fond memories of NUS Enterprise, especially the BLOCK71 area with all the talks, seminars, and events that happen all the time. Our first major investment came from meeting someone at a Friday Huddle that happened every Friday evening.
